Dr. Ahmed earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at Suez Canal University. He completed internship, residency, and master degree in Pediatrics at university of Suez Canal, Egypt. He also completed residency of Pediatrics at UNC, Chapel, Hill, NC and completed medical genetic and Neonatology fellowship at Duke University, NC. He earned his Ph.D degree from both university of Duke and Suez Canal University.
Dr. Ahmed also explores new therapeutic modalities for our neonates’ health challenges including new vasodilators and new anti-oxidants. He and his team are also trying new prenatal approach in treating neonates lung disease prenatally (e.g. congenital diaphragmatic hernia).
In addition to his basic/transitional research focus, he is also involved in many clinical studies based on the database developed for his pulmonary hypertension patients and is also part of multicenter clinical trials as a study site.

Research: Dr. Perveen and her lab members focus on understanding the mechanism of lung injury after exposure to oxidative stress and with congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Group is working to develop new therapeutic modalities with special interest in preserving angiogenesis and improving lung growth in newborn period.
